Ons Jabeur knows better than to buy into the hype when a major rolls around. It seems to be serving her well after holding off Camila Osorio for a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the first round of the 2024 French Open.
The Wimbledon finalist has never been past the second round at Roland Garros. As the No. 2 seed, she's the clear favorite to make a deep run this year. Jabeur has won 12 of her last 13 matches.
Against Osorio, Jabeur was in control from the start. She broke Osorio's serve in the second game of the match and never looked back. Jabeur won the first set in just 29 minutes.
Osorio, who is ranked No. 73 in the world, played better in the second set. She broke Jabeur's serve in the fourth game and held on to win the set 6-5. But Jabeur regrouped in the third set and broke Osorio's serve in the opening game. She held on to win the set 6-3 and advance to the second round.
Jabeur will next face No. 29 seed Kristina Mladenovic. Mladenovic is a former French Open semifinalist and is always a dangerous opponent on clay. But Jabeur will be confident after her impressive performance in the first round.
