CMV's MS Astor Cruise Ship Scrapped in Turkey

The End of an Era for the Former Astor Ship (ex Berlin and Astor)

The 1987-built MS Astor cruise ship, last operated by CMV UK, has been scrapped in Turkey, marking the end of an era for the former Astor ship.

The Astor was built in 1987 by HDW in Kiel, Germany, and was originally named Berlin. In 1990, it was renamed Astor and served with Astor Kreuzfahrten until 2009. In 2011, it was acquired by CMV and renamed MS Astor.

The MS Astor was a popular cruise ship, known for its intimate size and classic elegance. It had a capacity of just over 600 passengers and offered a wide range of itineraries, including cruises to the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean.

However, the MS Astor's career came to an end in 2020 when CMV UK ceased operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ship was laid up in Piraeus, Greece, and was eventually sold for scrap in 2022.

The scrapping of the MS Astor is a sad end for a ship that was once a popular and beloved cruise ship. However, it is also a reminder of the challenges facing the cruise industry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
